Congratulations! You just signed the papers, picked up your keys, and drove off the lot in a brand-new vehicle. It smells new, it feels new, and from 10 feet away, it looks perfect.
But if you look closer—especially under direct sunlight—you might be shocked at what you find.
At OCDetailing, some of the most intensive work we do is on cars with less than 100 miles on the odometer. Here is the uncomfortable truth about why your “new” car needs professional preparation immediately.
1. The “DIS” (Dealer Installed Swirls)
Most dealerships have a dedicated “make-ready” department. Their goal is speed, not quality.
Porters are often instructed to wash dozens of cars a day using the same bucket of water and the same dirty rags. Worse, they may use high-speed rotary buffers to quickly shine up the paint, leaving behind holograms and swirl marks.
We call these “Dealer Installed Swirls” (DIS). You didn’t pay for damaged paint, but unfortunately, it often comes standard.
2. Shipping Contamination (Rail Dust)
Your car didn’t teleport from the factory to the dealership. It likely traveled by train and semi-truck.
During transit, tiny particles of hot iron from train wheels and brake dust settle onto the paint. These metal particles embed themselves into the clear coat. If you have a white car, you might see them as tiny orange rust specks. This is called “Rail Dust.”
If you seal over these particles without removing them, they will continue to rust and eat into your clear coat. Our New Car Prep includes a chemical Iron Decontamination to dissolve these contaminants safely.
3. “Protection Packages” are often a Gimmick
The finance manager probably tried to sell you a “Paint Protection Package” for $1,000+.
In reality, most dealership protection is just a cheap polymer sealant applied by a porter in 15 minutes. It offers minimal gloss and barely any chemical resistance. It rarely lasts more than a few months.
The OCDetailing Solution: Start Fresh
The best time to protect your vehicle is right now, before road debris and improper washing cause deeper damage.
Our New Car Prep service hits the reset button:
- Decontamination: We chemically and mechanically (clay bar) remove shipping fallout.
- Correction: We polish the paint to remove dealership swirls and increase gloss.
- Protection: We apply a professional-grade Ceramic Coating (like FEYNLAB® or Undrdog) to lock in that perfection for years, not months.
Don’t let the dealership wash your new car. Bring it to the professionals who treat it like the investment it is.
